I am a Youth Probation Officer with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. Human Trafficking is an ongoing issue that effects many of the youth we work with. We have had regular contact with the Ottawa Police Human Trafficking Unit and some of your youth are also connected with community services such as Voice Found.
I have spoken with the Youth Probation Manager who has given the go ahead to be a representative of our organization, however would not be able to be a voting member.
I feel that it is detrimental to have a face from Youth Probation at the table when discussing these matters.

I have started a face book page to provide education to our community about Human trafficking. Face book page Human Trafficking not in our town-Kawartha Lakes. I live in Lindsay Ontario. We have had 28 girls rescued in our community since January 2017. We do not have the capacity to provide support once these victims are rescued. Little or no resources are available.

I would like to know about how to better educate our community.

I am a recent graduate from the Human Rights program at Carleton University, BA. honours, I am the coordinator for the Books to Prison groups well as a domestic abuse survivor at the hands of a human trafficker. I understand now the fear that I lived through was not an isolated incident. Living through the experience and pulling myself out of it, taught me how to use resources available in my community, but I also learned what the limitations can be of community programs geared towards people who need the help the most.
I am looking forward to working with organizations and offer workshops, be a liaison for clients, or working administratively for an organization. I want to work with program providers to help give the best solutions for people whose shoes I once have been in.

I work with criminalized youth or those who are at-risk of becoming criminalized. Some of the youth I encounter in various facilities are survivors of child sex trafficking. I would love to be involved in a coalition such as yours. Ending human trafficking is very dear to me as I am a survivor as well and so I seem to connect easily with the youth I serve. I am privileged to work alongside these young people, for they have been my greatest teachers time and time again. I hope that this opportunity may increase my knowledge and advocacy skills.
